About

Stickers are a relatively new feature to Matrix and there are currently two competing implementations
(MSC#1951 and MSC#2545), which makes their usage not exactly straight forward.

With this page I want to:

If you want to know how to create your own, go here.

Stickerpacks

You can open the Element links in your browser to preview the packs even if you use a different client.

There is also a Space that you can join on Matrix which groups all of the rooms listed below so that they don't clutter your room list: #stickers:squirrel.rocks

How to use them

Nheko, Cinny and FluffyChat

The process is essentially as follows:

  1. Join the room with the stickers you want to add
  2. Open the rooms settings
  3. Open the emote settings
  4. Switch on the setting to enable them globally

The exact Names of the menu entries and settings depend on your client, I tried to illustrate it with some screenshots from FluffyChat (left to right, top to bottom, with alt text):

This image has two parts:
The first is the top half of the room as it looks after joining, the three dot menu is highlighted.
The second shows the available menu options after tapping the three dot menu,
the "Chat details" option is highlighted. A screenshot of the Chat details view, the "Settings" option is highlighted. A screenshot of the Settings view, the "Emote Settings" option is highlighted. A screenshot of the Emote Settings view, the setting "Enable emote pack globally"
is highlighted, its toggle is set to On

Element

Adding stickers in Element requires that you use an Element-Web instance that is configured to use Dimension instead of Scalar, or the Maumium Sticker Picker for Element-Desktop, as well as the following steps:

  1. Click the three dot button in the message composer
  2. Click on "Sticker"
  3. In the pop-up, click "Add some now"
  4. Copy one of the Element links above, paste it into the "Stickerpack URL" field and click "Add stickerpack"
  5. It takes a few seconds for the Stickers to be added, do not close the window before.
  6. You may need to restart Element / reload the page before the stickers show up in the Sticker pop-up
  7. You may be asked to allow the sticker picker to verify your user ID, enable the "Remember this" toggle
    and Confirm.

Sticker pop-up is highlighted.
The Sticker Manager window is overlaid over the chat window, it has a URL field
with an Add button below it.
A short while after clicking the Add button a green pop-up saying
"Stickers updated" will appear.
If everything worked right the Sticker pop-up will now show the added stickers.
